An Evening at Penhein

The PCC (and the village!) would like to thank Richard and Ruth Micklethwaite for allowing the use of their house during the ‘inclement’ weather we had on the evening of the 11th July!

A great evening was had by all and we are on track to have made around £790.

Confirmation Service

The Bishop of Monmouth The Rt. Revd Dominic Walker OGS made his first visit to St. Mary’s Church on Sunday 14th June and confirmed 8 people into the Church in Wales..

The service was well represented by local parishes and we had almost 60 people in church to welcome the Bishop and to celebrate the people bring confirmed.

Walk on the Wildside...

Helen John of the Gwent Wildlife Trust (GWT) arranged a walk around one of there outstanding local areas near to Usk on Sunday 21st June for 18 of us ‘villagers’

It was a great day out, a fantastic walk with many people picking up a lot more knowledge about the local plant life - Thanks Helen!

As a gesture of thanks ‘the hat’ was passed around and a very generous amount was raised that was split between GWT and the Church fund raising.

The Digital Switch Over...

Wales will become the first nation in the UK to go completely digital next year - via either digital terrestrial TV through an aerial - otherwise known as Freeview - or by cable or satellite dish.

On 12 August, the Kilvey Hill TV transmitter serving 132,000 homes in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot goes digital.

Trading Standards have been checking on TV installation companies in Dorset and found that some were saying you had to pay £1,000 to get a digital TV that would work - NOT TRUE!!

If you do not already have a digital TV or don’t know please call Andrew on  400 051 first.

Martin Singers

We would like to say a BIG thank you to all the Martin Singers who came and performed a lovely concert in the church recently. The new chairs we have really helped us to provide a real concert like appearance and the acoustics were fantastic.

If you have any ideas for future use please let us know!

Photos are in the Photo Gallery and a movie is also on line; although the quality has been reduced for web use!
